Sourcing Products and Technologies
Our approach has been to create or license-in appropriate patents, technologies and know-how where necessary and further develop the product on a proprietary basis. Where appropriate, we have subsequently acquired relevant intellectual property and, as a result, we have a broad proprietary intellectual property portfolio of granted patents and patent applications in various jurisdictions around the world. We currently own all patents and intellectual property in relation to cetilistat, COLAL-PRED® and ATL-104.
Our existing portfolio of three late stage drug candidates has derived from a variety of sources.
Cetilistat
Cetilistat was developed from one of four active chemical series arising from our own discovery programme into inhibitors of GI lipases. The compound was identified and commenced pre-clinical development in 1999.
COLAL-PRED®
COLAL-PRED® is a proprietary product developed by Alizyme and has arisen from combining COLAL®, a drug delivery technology, with prednisolone, a generic steroid. COLAL® was originally accessed and then licensed through a series of agreements with BTG International Ltd (now BTG plc), commencing in 1996. In March 2005, we acquired the patents that relate to the COLAL® technology from BTG plc.
ATL-104
ATL-104 resulted from a research discovery made at Rowett Research Institute in Scotland, with whom we had a development programme. We subsequently acquired the rights to ATL-104 under a series of agreements in 1996 and 1997 and have applied it to the treatment of mucositis.
COLAL®
The COLAL® drug delivery system was initially developed in a collaboration between the London University School of Pharmacy, the MRC Dunn Clinical Nutrition Centre in Cambridge, UK and the Institute of Food Research in Norwich UKCOLAL® was originally accessed and then licensed through a series of agreements with BTG International Ltd (now BTG plc), commencing in 1996. In March 2005, we acquired the patents that relate to the COLAL® technology from BTG plc. We have taken COLAL® from the research stage and developed it into a drug delivery system suitable for pharmaceutical application.
